HELLO!, says the giant squid, wait why are you running away
I can't sleep and am considering going on IRC, even though I know that this will shoot any chance of getting to sleep soon in the foot.

However, internets, I want you to know that today, my dinner consisted of a lot of bacon and avacado.

  3. Pack your fucking clothes and tolietries
  4. Do Last Minute Run Around House

  6. Finish the paper that was due today
  7. At least glance over the fucking study guide for the test
  8. DRINK MORE WATER YOU IDIOT
  9. Buy lots of wine for Pillow Forts and SPN Friday (this can be put off until Friday without fear)

I think my to do lists get more and more swear filled the more stressed I get. By that measure, we're about to hit at least an 8.

I have figured out how to IRC on campus wifi, in browser.

Apparently I am feeling super girly today.

Outfit as follows: pink v-neck tee over a lavender one, so bra does not show through, with teal cardigan over top. Below, dark skinny jeans and tan brown knee high boots. Topped off with purple neckerchief, and I flat-ironed my bangs and pulled them forward, rather then tucking behind my ears. (This was enough of a difference that my male co-worker thought I'd gotten a hair cut.)
Also wearing a full face of makeup.

Hockey game last night was great. My school won, over our Dreaded Rivals, which is always fun. It was D3 women's hockey, so it was us and a few family members/boy friends dragged out for it, but still fun.

Also, excitingly, my order from Nerd Lacquer came! I bought Warrior Ethos, I Think You Call Me Sexy, Antisocial, and Entirely Unlike Tea, and also received an Exciting Bonus Color for shipping delays. Full review and images later, after my nails recoup from the beating I gave them the other day.

Had to enact managerial duties today, which is always a little intimidating.

HELLO!, says the giant squid, wait why are you running away
I'm taking a course this J-Term, and it's been a lovely class so far, but so tiring. It's my last required lab class, which means that I have class everyday for three hours in the morning, then have lab for three more Tuesdays and Thursdays. The professor has also been using the scheduled Friday afternoon time (which is on the registar's info as an optional tutoring session) as the test time. Yep. We've a test every Friday, and typically have two lab write ups during the week, homework problems which are not required but I do anyway so I have a handle on the equations, and a final paper due at the end of the month. It's very much a whole physics class crammed into one month. The last time I took a J-term with this kind of schedule, it was Financial Accounting, and that. Hrm. Well. I can probably blame part of my final grade on having an atrocious break up the night before the final test upon which most of the grade hung, but even AJ can't explain all of that.

Lovely class tho, and the professor is a doll who is obviously doing this because he likes teaching the class, not because he needs the job. Apparently has had a long and stories career being the consultant who gets called in on nuclear power and such like. Also, he plans excellent labs- relevant to both the topic and non-majors, which the class mainly is.

In other news, the couple from my church who I dog/house sat for back in November have asked me to dog sit for them again, which is good. Also, I am going with my brother to a hockey game tomorrow (woot!) and then to Rollergirls on Saturday. Looks like it may just be me and Elisa and mayyybee Liz. *fist pumps* Elisa wants to go to the after-party too, which should be fun. (She's fallen into the age old "I'm in a serious relationship, let's get you shacked up too!" mode, tho.)

welp.

That's the mood theme up, then. But now I'm filled with the need to move around the mood theme title text, which I greatly confused by in this theme. I may have to find those DW styles docs I've been avoiding.

also, some time I need to figure out why my server freaks out over the difference between PNG and png, while the rest of the internet seems to not be distinguishing anymore.
HELLO!, says the giant squid, wait why are you running away
First off, THANK YOU unknown Dreamwidth-er who gave me paid time through the lottery! That was a delightful surprise to wake up to! (Why yes, first thing I do is check my phone when I wake up. Hello, technology co-dependence.)

THIS MEANS I HAVE TO FIND MORE ICONS. *cheers* Where are the good iconnary communities on DW, hrm? I guess I'll find out. I should also figure out how to change my mood theme.

In entirely unrelated news, I now make a note to myself: Never use those nifty Biore pore clearing stripes, they only sort of pull out your blackheads and then you break out ALL OVER YOUR FACE. Just don't.
annoyance: shh, I'm trying to kill you with my brain.
My Android phone had, before this day, gone nameless because nothing would stick. NOW THIS HAS CHANGED. NOW I DUB THEE: Watson.

worf says "everyone needs to shut up or die."
Internets, I am so tired. I finally said fuck it and turned in my senior thesis. I'm fairly sure I still have some correctly-spelled-but-incorrect-words in there, but my cold (and fever?) has set in with a vengeance and I spent the whole ten hour shift at work (DEAD quiet, except for the occasional interruptions of walrus man) glowering at the screen and getting. nothing. done.

so fuck it, everything is in.

also, i have about ten emails flagged as important to deal with, and I should be going to Kuk Sool to get cleared on my most recent form, but. fuckit. so tired. my sleep schedule is shot to hell, and i've got caffeine headaches liek woah.

i owe a couple people comments and cheerleading, and you'll get them, but probably after new year. i am declaring now until new year a vacation. no pressure to reply to email or people. just sleeping and reading and family.

i should also do something more redirecty about my lj, but that will wait until the new year. along with job applications. (although, internets, if you know any tech support jobs with good companies, or even just good companies to look at, throw them my way, hmmkay.)
HELLO!, says the giant squid, wait why are you running away
I just baked a shit tonne of cookies, mostly pfeffernuesse and meltaways. this year, I tried a recipe for softer pfeffernuesse, without molasses and with candied orange peel instead. I like it, but I need to make some of the hard, biscotti like ones too, they are delicious with a cup of coffee.

(stress baking, yaahhh.)
i don't feel good, somebody give me a hug
The kind of week where I spend 45 minutes crying in the dean's office, fail to pass my belt test, and also desperately need to do laundry, but can't be arsed to because of either a) I have no time, and what little time I spend in my dorm is sleeping time, or b) I ache all over, and the prospect of lugging at least three loads of laundry up and down three flights of stairs makes me want to cry.

I have indian food, and three bottles of wine. I have earmarked two of the bottles for other things, so I have a self-imposed limit of only one, but this could still end badly.

Oh, and I have to go to church and deal with DRAMA tomorrow.
the king of the wild things plays the cello
Getting the desire to put more holes in my face. Well, my ears. I'm missing my gauges something fierce, but now is not a good time to stretch again, with job interviews looming.

I currently have both ears double pierced in the lobe, and two helixes on my upper left ear. I used to have the piercings in the lobes gauged to 6g and 2g. Now they're closed up again.

I'm kind of thinking getting a set of conches with rings on my right side, but they wouldn't be symetrical with my left. (Not that they're symetrical now, but right now they're nicely asymetrical.) Another option would be getting a conch on both sides, right under the helixes on the left.

Alternativly, I could get an eyebrow piercing, but that's falling under the "not great for job interviews" category.

Possibly I have warped expectations of what is frowned upon in a corporate setting, but in my defense, my hair is growing out again, and will hide my ears again shortly, people actually tend to miss my ear piercings because they catch on my glasses first, and finally, I'm going into IT. Let's be honest. Most of my friends in positions like the ones I want have violently dyed hair and tattoos.

Gah, tattoos. That's another thing I'd want, if I had the money. But that's even more of a pipe dream; too expensive, and while I love businessman tats, women have a lot harder time pulling that off. And also, holes close. Ink doesn't easily come out. My paranoid, don't get identifying marks side and my social chameleon side are against the idea, while the rest of me likes scratching those defining marks on myself.
HELLO!, says the giant squid, wait why are you running away
So, this morning, bright and early, I got all registered for my final semester of classes. \o/

J-Term:
Energy, Environment, and the Economy (the last lab science class I need to graduate)

Spring Term:
Advanced Voice
Logic (...the professor keeps being all, "are you sure you want to take this? it'll be really easy for you".)
The Language Phenomenon
Intro to Theology (may drop it if it turns out I don't need the extra credits; Voice is only a 2 credit class, and I need to check with financial aid to make sure of how many credits I need for my scholarships.)
Feminist and Womanist Theology (SUPER EXCITED ABOUT THIS.)
HELLO!, says the giant squid, wait why are you running away
On Sunday, I had a kind of shitty day, the kind of shitty that ends with me posting beat poetry to tumblr. (Oh Allen Ginsberg, my love, you are not a happy man.) But I got all my homework done.

On Monday, I tripped and fell headfirst into Minecraft. This was exacerbated when I went to ask a friend I knew played a n00b question, and her husband said "oh! you're playing minecraft! here, join our server." and gave me a bunch of admin powers too. So, I have an awesome kickass house thing going on, but I keep losing it.
Also, because my professor has kids, I had class until 9:30pm, after going to work at 6am. I didn't do anything fun, except play Minecraft until the caffeine wore off.

Today, I played more Minecraft at work, and when I got off work, a friend invited me out to dinner. I went happily, even though I'm not a huge Russian fan. The place in question was very good (and slightly more pricy then I like, but again, good and the service was good) and had apparently the widest selection of vodka in the area. This would be more relevent to my interests if I liked vodka. But I got a martini, and we had a good time. (Our server was great, and also kept walking up to us at the most interesting points in our conversations. He got great tags like "...just seriously, surrounded by strip clubs." and "Her brother!? You pervert!", among others.) After we ate, we took a turn around the neighborhood to clear off the last of the vodka fumes, as she was driving her motorcycle home. A lovely time was had by all.

(anyone plays minecraft and likes to play multiplayer, let me know.)

This is like the slightly gothic commedy of manners AU of my soul. I don't care if you're not a huge banddom person-- this can be read/listened to without knowlege of banddom, or their music at all.
First off, the story is great. Amazing world building, great mystery, excellent story of the liminal spaces of supernatural and natural. Set in a post-Masquarade world, Gerard Way runs a detetive agency for Midnighters (those of the supernatural community) while not being a Midnighter himself. The story starts with the introduction of his vampire valet Frank to the household, and is framed as a detective mystery around the apparent death of Pete Wentz, major player in the Midnighter community and author of the Clan Code, which provides a Midnighter law that covers everything from how to consentually turn a Daylighter to how thick the sunshielding has to be on a house. Each chapter is prefaced with a bit of ephemera-- generally a poster or text-- relating to the chapter. Highlights include Bob Bryer, most visible member of the secret Blind Order which acts as police, judge and, when nessecary, executioner to the Midnighter community, Brian Schecter, Way family's resident wizard, and De Weeze, Frank's zombie best friend.

Okay, who hasn't read this fic? For those who have, this is a great, really well done reading. For those who haven't, this is a fic where Arthur, Prince of Wales, meets Merlin Emrys, in his intern year while studying to be a doctor and a bit magic, whilst in a closet in a hospital, and all hell breaks loose. It's great. It's also does a really good job of including ephemera, such as Delicious, ONTD and newspaper articles.

Okay, so I'm kinda a big cynical idealist (no, no, it makes sense-- I think people in groups and in general are dicks, but it's worth trying to pursue ideals anyway) and thus US politics makes me alternatly homicidal and depressive (and sometimes both!), and mostly I don't get involved in that shit in any sort of public way for my personal health. (I'm an economist, I deal with this shit for a vocation.)
So, that said: this is an AU where Bruno Walton is the campaign manager for a Democratic senator running for President. Boots is an English teacher in Canada. No really, it's amazing. This is not only a great Bruno and Boots story, it's a great Bruno story. And it also manages to make me feel hopeful and positive about the political process in the US. It's a kind of dreamy, lyrical story, and also hysterical.

Oh Pru.
This fic. Well, first off, I should probably warn you that one of the major punch lines is that John Sheppard is mistaken for a victmn of domestic abuse by the local ER doctor. If this is a problem for you, don't listen to it.
Now, that said, this is a really fucking funny story. It also subtly pokes at the idea that Rodney and John are, if seen from the outside, more then a bit fucked up. (I think it was another of Pru's stories that genderswapped John, and made the point that a typical John/Rodney story if one of them's a chick would lead to a divorce and a restraining order in short order.) Now, if you're still with me, I gotta say, this is a great story, and take the chance on it.

Man. This is on my list of fic I would rec to ALIENS. It's such a great, summer-y fic. Such a great voice. Mike and Rudy are employed for the summer at Camp Algonkeon. I think the only way I can describe it is with a quote.

"Every trick, every trap, every little thing you are thinking of trying, I have I already tried. Every sneaky little plot you are planning to hatch, I have already enacted, and improved upon."

He whirled around suddenly. Several of the less confident boys shrank away from the finger he pointed at them. "I know you. I was you. don't even consider trying to prank me, or Webster, or the other members of Cabin 13, or there will be consequences the like of which you have never even considered."

Rudy paused for a moment, grimacing a little to bare his perfect white teeth. Even the hardier campers flinched this time.

"Other campers, other cabins, though..." he paused meaningfully. "They fall into a category I like to call fair game." He examined his fingernails. "There will, of course, be critique. There will be marks out of ten. There may even be prizes. One cannot, after all, learn or improve without support, advice and constructive criticism."

OH RUDY.

What you should take away from these recs: Basically, if FayJay read it, or Pru wrote it, I will READ THE SHIT OUTTA THAT. Also, I love crack!AUs with the strength of a thousand burning suns.
